Having long healthy hair has always been a thing in my family, I don't know if its being Indian or my family just thinking that good hair makes you beautiful but it has always been a thing that we have been told and have to hear all the time. This only made my cousins and I want to get hair cuts, bangs, layers, dye our hair random shades and rock crazy styles. I've been from knee length hair to ear length, then from mid back length to shoulder length and all over the place again. Though I've always wanted to have hair long enough to cover my breast like in the stories of the after world and how it is needed to make it into the garden, I know call me crazy.
I remember I dyed my hair for the first time at a friends house in the 10th grade and from then its been about 10 more times, only once being in a shop when I dyed my tips purple after my fathers death. Before that I went black, magenta, dark purple, brown, strawberry blonde, blonde tips, pink tips, blue tips, green tips and even used henna once to name a majority of the colors. Every time my mom has looked on like OMG not again, unless I go a basic black of course.
Starting 2020 I realized that I wanted to make this a year of great hair and hair love. On New Years Eve I decided to dye my hair black from a rusty red color and on the 1st of the year I chopped my mid back length to shoulder length. I told myself that basic hair would help me start off the year and go ahead with the steps of healthy growth. Along this journey I told myself that I would oil my hair weekly and not use heat more than 3 times a month and the journey has been a great one thus far.
Since starting my hair journey my hair has gone from shoulder length to now being to my mid back and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. I have tried a number of heat free hair styles throughout the year, but of course I have straightened my hair and wand'ed it every other week or so, much less than in past years though. I have not redyed my hair yet but I wash my hair at least once a week, I wash my hair with dandruff shampoo as I have heavy flakes twice, once with regular shampoo (I rotate between Pantene and Herbal Essences) and then I use a argon oil infused conditioner that I leave on for 3 to 5 minutes. I brush my hair right after towel drying it and put it in a bun for 15 minutes to not get frizz then I air dry it for the day.
I think that the most successful thing on my hair journey has been oiling my scalp and hair. Every Thursday (of course I missed a few) I have been oiling my hair weekly which is for sure benefiting in my hair growth. I use a mixture of castor oil, jasmine oil, coconut oil, mustard oil, amla oil and tea tree oil. I can not wait to use essential oils because I have heard some great things about them.
I am really happy with my hair growth over the past 6 months and I can not wait to see where the next 6 months takes my hair journey. Of course I have wanted to dye my hair or chop it off and get a bob but I told myself the only way to get amazing hair is to take the steps and wait it out. Instead of going short I would rather just find a way to wear the style or have my hair braided up to wear a wig (I mean everyone is doing it now so why not).
If you have any ideas or things that work for your hair growth journey please let me know because I would love to try it.
